Business booming when the trade meets in Göteborg!

MD Matts Spångberg, SVMF

The members of SVMF (Swedish Machine Tool Traders’ Association) enjoyed a huge increase in machine tool sales in 2006.

“And we anticipate that the upswing will continue in 2007,” says MD Matts Spångberg, SVMF.

SVMF, which is made up of over 60 companies, accounts for close on 90% of the Swedish market. Member company turnover totals some SEK 3.5 billion.

SVFM members import and supply machine tools, sheet metalworking machines, tools and accessories, testing and measuring equipment and automation/robotic equipment in Sweden.

“Swedish industry has been buying a lot more equipment in the past few years,” says Matts Spångberg. “In 2006 we sold 11% more machines than in 2005, or 17% more in money terms.”

Machinery in the SEK 2-5 million price range accounted for the biggest growth - all of 23%, an increase of 24% in money terms. Tools and accessories increased by 12%.

“It really feels like the wind is blowing our way, and the outlook for Machine Tools 2008 in Göteborg is very good. With so many customers ready to invest in new equipment, the fair is bound to generate lots of business and chalk up a big success.”

Input from exhibitors boosts fair impact

Ola Lundqvist, Exhibition Manager

“Machine Tools in Göteborg is designed in close consultation with the trade. We are keenly aware of the needs and wishes of the exhibitors.”

Exhibition Manager Ola Lundqvist, who is now travelling round and visiting a large number of exhibiting companies, goes on to say:

“The Swedish Exhibition Centre specialises in arranging trade fairs and exhibitions. But in-depth knowledge of the actual machine tool industry is, of course, something that only the exhibitors have. And the response has been generous. People have been more than willing to share their ideas and knowledge with me. And I’m all ears. Because the input from exhibitors helps us to develop and fine-tune the format and content of the fair.”

In practical terms, the aim is to strengthen the business impact of Machine Tools, increase its appeal, further increase visitor figures, and make it even simpler for exhibitors to exhibit.

“I’ve been getting lots of tips and suggestions on all sorts of matters,” says Ola Lundqvist. “Some large, some small, some wide sweeping, some on small details. But they’ll all help us to make the event even better.”
